Overview

The Corporate Secretary’s Office is responsible for governance of the OEB and support for the OEB’s Board of Directors. The work of this Department includes the coordination, tracking, preparation and posting of materials for Board of Directors and committee meetings. This work involves communication and leadership across the enterprise to ensure consistency of approach and proactive and timely follow-up to Board of Directors interests. This work also involves liaising across a network of broader public sector corporate secretaries to identify and promote best practices in corporate governance for government agencies. The Department also leads the OEB’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) work. The Corporate secretary’s office receives confidential information related to labour relations and the Board of Directors' decision-making.

Reporting to the Corporate Secretary, the Advisor is accountable to support corporate governance initiatives, including coordination, tracking, research, and analysis. In addition, the advisor will be responsible for drafting documents, presentations, and correspondence. The Advisor will support the OEB’s overall governance framework to keep pace with the expectations of the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the production of required materials to support the Chair of the Board of Directors and other directors.
  • Develop, edit, and distribute information through various internal channels, including reports to the Board of Directors, briefing notes, corporate publications, and other various communications.
  • Assist with the procurement and collaborate with external suppliers in the execution of projects.
  • Support internal coordination across OEB Divisions to promote policy alignment and operationalize policies.
  • Ensure alignment of new policies to achieve the OEB’s strategic goals.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key energy sector stakeholders (e.g., Ministry of Energy, IESO).
  • Support and work collaboratively with the Board of Directors, the Executive Leadership Team, and OEB divisional staff.
  • Record and consolidate stakeholder feedback for use in the development of options and recommendations.
  • Assist in the development of work plans to support the work of internal teams including the Board of Directors, by planning, coordinating, managing, monitoring, and reporting project status.
  • Support the development of policy reports and official OEB documents (i.e., presentations to the Board of Directors, summary reports).

Qualifications

  • University degree in Economics, Public Policy, Commerce, Accounting, or related discipline.
  • Graduate degree or professional designation in Economics, Public Administration, Law or Accounting, or related discipline.
  • 4 years’ experience in public policy, regulatory policy, public administration, or a related field.
  • 5 years’ progressive experience in public policy, regulatory policy, public administration in a regulatory industry or public utility setting.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Self-starter, motivated, enthusiastic with a strong desire to succeed and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Strong sense of political acumen
  • Project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel)
