Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who likes intellectually challenging work in a collaborative environment that fosters innovation and creativity. In this role, you will be responsible for developing policy related to electricity distribution through changes to codes and rules that support the OEB’s policy strategy, assessing compliance of regulated companies – including addressing complaints from market participants, liaising within the industry to identify areas of concern, and developing appropriate policy responses.
The policy and compliance work will focus on and engage your expertise in issues related to electricity distribution, planning, operations, and customer connections, to ensure that policy development and compliance oversight are grounded in a practical understanding of the sector.
Responsibilities
- Conduct policy research, including evaluating and analyzing policy options and their implications on the sector.
- Address industry complaints regarding compliance by regulated companies with legal and regulatory rules through timely and fair processes, in accordance with the OEB’s responsibility for consumer protection and market oversight, to provide confidence to industry and consumers.
- Conduct research and analysis to support proposed policies and prepare presentations, reports, and other documentation for internal and/or external review.
- Liaise with regulated entities to share information on changes to regulatory requirements and foster a culture of compliance.
- Organize and participate in working groups and stakeholder sessions.
- Assist in policy implementation, ensuring new policies are communicated to affected stakeholders.
- Develop an understanding of the regulations and codes that govern the electricity sector.
- Develop an understanding of various codes and regulations, such as the Distribution System Code (DSC), in order to provide guidance to stakeholders and internal staff.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree preferred in, but not limited to, Engineering, Finance, Economics or Business Administration
- Demonstrated experience in the electricity distribution system planning, operations, asset management or customer connections
- 5+ years’ experience in the electricity sector, working in or with public utility
- Graduate degree or professional designation is an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills that cater to all levels in the organization
- Knowledge of Ontario Energy Board Act and related legislation is an asset
- Adaptability to work effectively in a variety of situations and with various individuals or groups
