Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Performance Reporting, the Advisor reviews, analyzes and process the collection, validation, analysis, tracking and reporting of both financial and non-financial data filed in compliance with the Ontario Energy Board’s (OEB) Reporting and Record Keeping Requirements (RRR). The position provides analysis and advice on reporting issues related to finance, economics, accounting, service quality and reliability.  The Advisor analyses the performance trends of the regulated entities, prepares statistical reports and recommendations to assist OEB decision makers.   The position communicates regularly with the external reporting entities on the information requests and the processes for reporting.

This is a 7-month contract with the possibility of an extension.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, maintains and communicates the RRR filing guide and the annual calendar of reporting requirements.
  • Review information from regulated entities related to financial and operational performance for completeness and accuracy, including the compilation of information for Scorecard, Yearbook, Annual Report etc.
  • Serves as intermediary between policy/rates groups and IT to translate information needs into systems plans and conversely, to explain systems constraints to business applications.
  • Provides data analytics expertise - the usage and interpretation of data; analytic standards for measuring performance; the understanding of various relational databases and the usage of data queries for information requested.
  • Revises and amends, as appropriate, the publications as new requirements and performance assessments are determined and defined.
  • Guides the analysts in developing and testing the reporting templates used for regulated entities reporting requirements
  • Reviews and prepares recommendations to enhance the OEB’s monitoring and reporting initiatives, including the enhancement of associated systems.
  • Participates in key cross-functional project teams to provide reporting expertise. Assists with the development of reporting FAQ’s, internet postings, and media publications.
  • Monitors the Ontario energy sector and OEB developments from all relevant internal and external sources.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in one of the following fields: Finance; Economics; Mathematics; Data Science; Engineering or a related field; 
  • Over 5+ years of relevant experience in analytics focused role.
  • 4 years experience working with stakeholders or clients and conducting research of financial and non-financial data.
  • 4 years experience reviewing large volume of data and determining pertinent information for decision making purposes
  • Experience in a utility or regulatory environment is preferred
  • Experience in data analytical solutions and tools – Excel, SQL, VBA, Oracle BI, Power BI, SAS, R and/or Tableau.
  • Familiarity with financial/management reporting.
  • Project management an asset
  •  Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills a must
