Overview
The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) is currently seeking a student to join our team as a Co-op Student. This position reports to the Manager, Natural Gas and could possibly work with other areas within the Major Applications Division. In this role you will have the opportunity to gain work experience that will complement your academic studies.
The Natural Gas team reviews, analyzes and processes applications related to natural gas facilities (including pipelines, gas storage, and well drilling), franchise agreements and certificates of public convenience and necessity, rates, and natural gas supply. The team is also involved with policy matters relating to the regulation of natural gas.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the review of applications related to natural gas franchise agreements and certificates of public convenience and necessity, natural gas rates and/or leave to construct of natural gas pipelines.
- Manages a database of relevant issues identified in applications and begins to develop analytical and communication skills required for the assessment of applications.
- Communicates, collaborates and coordinates with groups and individuals internal and external to the OEB, including, but not limited to, subject matter experts, the OEB’s legal department, Commissioners, and intervenors.
- Monitors developments in the energy and regulatory policy environment, including legislation and regulations.
Qualifications
- Completion of 2nd or 3rd year of an economics, business administration, engineering or other related program and registered in a co-op program at a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Demonstrated coursework related to the energy sector is an asset.
- Ability to gather, analyze and compile data, then create visualizations to explain the findings (e.g., graphs and charts)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
