Overview
The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) is currently looking for a student to join our team as a Data Science Student. This position reports to the Manager, Performance Analytics and Reporting and could possibly work with other areas within the Operating and decision support division. In this role you will have the opportunity to gain work experience that will complement your academic studies.
The Performance Analytics & Reporting team is primarily accountable for Reporting and Record keeping Requirement (RRR) data stewardship, collection, scorecards, and benchmarking activities. The team is also responsible for providing lines of business with reporting and data analytics as requested and maintaining the OEB’s commitment to the publication of all non-confidential data to the sector.
Responsibilities
Supporting the Performance Analytics and Reporting to:
- Develop, maintain, and enhance a centralized repository of data sets for the department.
- Analyze and synthesize information from rate-regulated utilities, including electricity and natural gas distributors.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative research, evaluation, and analysis to generate reports and identify emerging trends.
- Design and implement interactive reporting dashboards to support decision-making.
- Apply machine learning techniques to public data sets to uncover insights and support evidence-based policy development.
Qualifications
- Completion of 2nd or 3rd year of an engineering, math, statistics, or data science program registered in a co-op program at a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Demonstrated coursework in machine learning and deep learning, including an understanding of Natural Language Processing (NLP), is considered an asset.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and compile data, and to develop clear visualizations (such as graphs and charts) to communicate findings.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
