Overview

Reporting to the People Operations Manager, the People and Culture (HR) & Payroll Assistant will provide HR and payroll support to meet timelines, reconciliation and reporting requirements as well as coordinate and facilitate administrative processes to ensure efficient P&C operations. Responsibilities also include researching and providing recommendations on business solutions to support operational initiatives, supporting programs, data entry and integrity and leading specialized projects as required.

 

This is a 12-month contract with the possibility of extending.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Sr Analyst with the bi-weekly and monthly payroll processing within prescribed timelines and committing payroll for payment.
  • Assist Sr Analyst with processing all applicable payroll requirements, e.g. retro, bi-weekly pay, top-up, pay adjustments, termination pay, ROE etc.
  • Assist and support on annual payroll deliverables, e.g., incentive, across the board increase, annual audit etc.
  • Produce divisional and payroll reports (remittance, third parties, pension, GL), ad hoc, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual report from P&C HRIS, payroll systems and other systems.
  • Provide backup and support duties to ensure operational needs, delivery targets and timelines meet business requirements.
  • Maintain sensitive information in all formats, and correspondence that meet legislation, standards, policies, and confidentiality requirements.

Qualifications

  • A post-secondary diploma in payroll, HR, finance, or any related field. 
  • Completion of Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification from the National Payroll Institute, or equivalent is considered an asset.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience providing HR and Payroll support in a unionized environment is required
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience with HRIS and payroll systems in a related setting is required.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Teams.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources systems (preferably Dayforce, SuccessFactors, HR Downloads)
  • Strong knowledge of payroll practices, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of records management, HRIS systems, collective agreements, employment/labour relations, Occupational Health and Safety legislation, privacy legislation and benefit plans.
  • Strong organizational skills: exceptional attention to detail and follow-through and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
