Overview
Under the direction of the Director, the Reporting and Database Analyst will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and ongoing support of the enterprise information repositories, including databases, data warehouse, and related applications.
This position will assess database and reporting requirements, develop, and implement data/document management and reporting solutions. The Reporting and Database Analyst will ensure users and clients are supported with best practices in data management, reporting, and business intelligence.
Responsibilities
Database Development:
- Analyze department requirements to design and develop database, reporting and document management solutions.
- Develop databases and related applications ensuring client/user requirements are addressed.
- Maintain and monitor the data warehouse.
- Develop and support data collection and data entry/import solutions, such as input forms and packages.
Database Maintenance:
- Support the development of information repository and business application systems enhancement projects.
- Provide information repository expertise on larger, more complex integrated projects.
- Provide project expertise on application design and architecture.
- Collaborate with IT team to review and recommend system enhancements to meet corporate objectives.
- Support business users and provide expertise with technical issues.
- Maintain appropriate authorization in database systems.
- Support indexing and other database maintenance work to ensure high performance.
- Support the Data Governance Framework, as needed.
- Develop and maintain documentation.
- Monitor database and server performance, and complete tuning if needed.
Reporting Development:
- Complete data validation and data cleaning to prepare data for reporting.
- Generate metrics related to critical information, such as performance, variance, and analyses strategic, operational and resource allocation decisions and actions.
- Interpret high level business needs into functional needs by understanding issue and determining data requirements.
- Prepare reports synthesizing analytical results, highlighting implications of findings.
- Maintain and update current reports and dashboards.
- Collaborate with business areas to define new reporting requirements.
- Develop new reporting based on identified business needs.
- Develop automated reports and reporting tools using programming.
- Develop and maintain data models and data repositories.
- Maintain appropriate authorization in business intelligence environments.
Qualifications
- University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Intelligence, Information Management, or related discipline.
- Degree in Computer Science with specialty in related field.
- 2 years’ experience in Information Technology design and system implementation, working in a regulated industry and/or public utility.
- 3 years’ progressive experience in Information Technology design and system implementation in a regulated industry or public utility setting.
- Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Dynamics, PowerAutomate, PowerPoint, Access, Teams, SharePoint).
- Working knowledge of SQL, Python, JavaScript, Visual Basic, Visual Basic for Applications to assist with the querying of data.
- Proficient with programs and tools such as Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Reporting Services Tools, as well as Business Intelligence solutions such as Oracle BI, PowerBI, Tableau or Sisense.
- Completion of Azure Services and PowerBI Training/Courses, with a Microsoft Learning Partner is preferred.
