Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who likes intellectually challenging work in a collaborative environment that fosters innovation and creativity. In this role, you will be responsible for developing policy through changes to codes and rules that support the OEB’s policy strategy, assessing compliance of regulated companies including addressing complaints from market participants, liaising within the industry to identify areas of concern, and developing appropriate policy responses.
Compelled by our desire to become a globally recognized top tier regulatory agency, we are currently seeking an energetic and collaborative individual to join our team as a Senior Advisor in our Distribution Policy & Compliance department.
Responsibilities
- Conducts policy research including evaluating and analyzing policy options and their implications on the sector
- Prepare documents to solicit stakeholder feedback
- Develops policy options by leading stakeholder consultations and directing projects and project teams
- Addressing industry complaints regarding compliance by regulated companies with the legal and regulatory rules through timely and fair processes in accordance with the OEB’s responsibility for consumer protection and market oversight, to provide confidence to industry and consumers
- Monitors the energy and regulatory policy environment to identify changes in the industry, trends, and emerging issues; building relationships with stakeholders, commissions, and industry associations
- Develops an understanding of the regulations and codes that govern the electricity sector
- Develops an understanding of various codes and regulations, such as the Distribution System Code (DSC), that relate to the sector, in order to provide guidance to stakeholders and internal staff
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree preferred in, but not limited to, Engineering, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration
- Experience in the electricity sector is required
- 5+ years' experience working in a regulated industry and/or public utility, 8+ years would be preferred.
- Previous experience with policy development is an asset
- Previous experience with change management, adapting policies and processes to address changes in the industry, and innovation initiatives is an asset
- Graduate degree or professional designation is an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills that cater to all levels of the organization
- Knowledge of Ontario Energy Board Act and related legislation is an asset
- Adaptability to work effectively in a variety of situations and with various individuals or group
