Overview

The Senior HR Business Partner (Senior HRBP) serves as a strategic advisor to business leaders, aligning people strategies with organizational goals to drive performance, engagement, and long-term capability. The role bridges HR expertise with business acumen, ensuring that talent, culture, and organizational design decisions directly support business outcomes. This position partners closely with senior management to diagnose people related challenges, design evidence based solutions, and implement programs that enhance organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, leadership development, and employee experience. The Senior Human Resources Business Partner is an advisor on general HR, employee and labour relations issues and concerns to designated divisions/departments.  This role is responsible for the day-to-day administration and/or interpretation of HR policies, processes, programs and practices as well as Collective Agreement terms and conditions.

Responsibilities

 

  • Advise management on the administration and appropriate application of HR policies, procedures, and standards as well as applicable legislation/regulations (e.g., Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Act, Labour Relations Act).
  • Provide coaching and guidance to people leaders, including members of the Executive Leadership team, in resolving people issues and people management practices; provide advice to management regarding sensitive issues.
  • Identify challenges, emerging risks, and issues faced by the organization and recommend solutions to reduce and eliminate challenges.
  • Act as an agent of change, enabling talent building, organizational effectiveness, ongoing development, and cultural transformation; act as a catalyst for honest conversations and cultural change.
  • Serves as a key liaison between business units and HR Centers of Excellence to ensure seamless delivery of talent, performance, and engagement initiatives.
  • Coaches leaders on effective people management, change leadership, and team development to enhance capability and decision making.
  • Participate in the development, revision, and implementation of HR policies and procedures to improve professional services and standards.
  • Prepare presentations, present factual reports, and ad hoc information that include measurement to support and drive decision making.
  • Use discretion, utilize effective resource, and expense management principles adhering to corporate financial/procurement policies.
  • Create and champion excellence in customer service standards and delivery with all internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Business, Human Resources Management, or related discipline. CHRP is an asset.
  • 10 plus years’ progressive experience in Human Resources in a unionized environment in a regulatory industry, utility, public sector, or not-for-profit setting. Collective bargaining experience is an asset.
  • Demonstrated business literacy and consulting skills with demonstrated ability to persuade/influence business leaders.
  • Superior knowledge of relevant provincial and federal legislation, acts and regulations as well as employee and labour relations trends and issues
  • Knowledge of contemporary human resources practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and contribute to a collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.
